MILITARY COLLECTOR GROUP POST, JUNE 9/98 Index: ANNOUNCEMENTS; Visitors, TNM Battery Adapters, 6 Meter Freq, RAL-7? MEMBERS WRITE; Racal Syncal 30, Dallas Ham Com Report, Library Contributions, VLAD, & TG-34 KEYER; LEWIS-CLARK HAMFEST; LENOX's LATE SPRING/EARLY SUMMER CLEANING; HUMOR; *********************************************** ANNOUNCEMENTS; Visitors, Last weeks visitors included Sam Timberlake, Bob Simpson, and Todd Huss. Sorrily though, none were driving vehicles with sufficient hauling capacity to make much of a dent in the mess around here. Both Bob, and Todd brought token gifts, but as Sam was unaware of this requirement, I had to be content with making him buy our lunch. All future visitors should remember the gift rule! TNM Battery Adapters, A new company in Florida may be interested in making TNM type battery adapters. But they need to know more about them. If you have any such adapters for the PRC-6, 10, CPRC-26, or whatever, might I barrow them? 6 Meter Freq, A little fiddling with my PRC-68 over the weekend showed that it is not capable of operation on both 50.5, and 51mc at the same time. The closest it will get is 50.2, 50.4, 50.6, 50.8, 51. So Joe's suggestions for 6 meter freqs won't work with this radio. In the interest of universal compatability, how about 50.6 then as 6 meter net freq, and 51mc for special events? I had several radios monitoring 6 meters for the last week but haven't notice much activity. RAL-7? The RAL-7 reported to be available here via "On the Commercial Front" a few days back, has been reported not to be as advertized. So if you have any negotiations in progress on this radio, best to re-think them. Dennis *********************************************** MEMBERS WRITE; Racal Syncal 30, Found an interesting item today at the Nashville, TN hamfest. A RACAL TRA931X tranceiver, in a vehicle mounting with an MA949 fixed station AC supply and a MA937 mobile power supply. The guy threw in a couple handsets, amplified speakers and a remote control. The unit works great, and looks good too! My question(s), does anyone have any info on pinouts, etc for audio and power supplies. Yes, already have a couple working handsets, I know. Also a source for manuals would be great, as well as a source for the battery case ( or battery pack ) MA934. Since it also can be configured as a manpack, does anyone have any idea where to look for the webgear to do so? How do I use the MA985B remote? The seller says "It works great using a TA-4 field phone". I guess the chance on finding a depot manual on this is next to nil. Great radio set, much like a PRC-74B or PRC-104. Covers 2-30 Mhz and has selectable 2 or 20 watts out ( this partuculat unit does 25 ). Thanks in advance for any help Tom Norris badger@telalink.net KA4RKT Nashville ed)Your radio is actually a Racal Syncal 30, a complete description of it an other radios in it's family can be found in: MCGP Backmail #36.Desert Storm Trophies,& JCMEC: By Bill Howard,& Dennis Starks While manuals for it are around, all are copies of copies, or bad originals, having barely readable schematics. The radio did not have a battery box per say, it was more like an encapsuled(in plastic) rechargeable battery, I've been looking for one to go with mine for over two years now. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dallas Ham Com Report, Yer gonna love this: Nothing, nada, nyet. No, I repeat, no green stuff! Saw one BC-348 with ratty looking external power supply and speaker in wooden box - guy wanted $40. I was told that there were two command set transmitters, dirty, at $30 each but never saw them. Fair bunch of civilian boatanchors. The Boatanchors Forum went so well that everyone wants to double its length next year! That's it! Lenox ed) Piss poor reporting! Couldn't ya have elaborated on the Boatanchors Forum a little more? Who all showed up? How many? Who/What you gossiped about? Ed Guzick reported on a Militaria show he attended in the Chicago area where HS-30 headphones could be had for a mere $100 a pop, and throat mics for $45. But this message along with others was lost in yesterdays thunder storm. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Library Contributions, Dennis, Hello, first I would just like to say that I am really enjoying part of the military radio group. I want to thank you for the hard work you do to keep it going. I'm sure it takes alot of work and your time. So THANKS! Anyway I see that you are looking for a PRC 64 manual I have one and would be willing to make you or anyone else a copy at cost and shipping. Also "Kevin H" needs manual for TA-312 I have one of those too and be glad to copy it for him. It is a TM 11-2155 dated 1957. I didnt see his email address to contact him directly. Maybe you could pass this on to him or send me his email and I'll contact him directly. Let me know if you want me to make you a copy of the PRC 64 manual. 73. Reguards, Kim WB4LZQ ed) thanks for the flowers, and your offer of manuals assistance. If anyone would like to participate in the manuals/copies program, send me a list of your library contents, I'll then post them along with my own in a future post. Dear Dennis: The Manual Loan Plan sounds good to me. I would be willing participant in such a offer. I know what you mean about not being eager to loan out you "stuff". I have lost too many irreplaceable books etc. The idea for a Mil collectors net on 6 meters appeals to me. I would like to see one in the FM portion of the band where we could use the Mil FM gear. RT 70 ,68 etc. Does anyone know of a Frequency that is open across the country in the FM section of the band? Thanks for the effort you are putting into this Mil Collectors group. Regards Rich K9RLF ed) we're still debating a usable freq for 6 meters and the use of our old war machines. The only thing that is definite is that 52.525 is the national FM calling freq, but would be unsuited to our needs. And that 51mc should be retained for use at all special events because it is the freq that nearly, if not all, such radios where supplied with from the factory. Much the same way as 3.885 was during WW-II(which accounts for it being the AM freq of choice today). In the next couple weeks I will be monitoring 51mc, 50.6, and 52.525 to see what happens. *********************************************** VLAD, & TG-34 KEYER; Hi Dennis, Sorry about your problems... Yesterday I bought a Signal Corps. Keyer TG-34-A with a box of tapes for $40. Very good cosmetical condition. Motor is running, and it has all signs of working. I do not need it, bought it just because I never seen it before. So if you or somebody in the group needs it, I will trade or sell it for what I paid. I am still looking for microphone cover for BC-611 !!! Always looking for German WWII receivers. Best regards, Vlad Dvorkin KB9OLM ex. UA3ACR email : vlad.dvorkin@pcc.philips.com ed) did you ever find a home for your BA-54 batteries? *********************************************** LEWIS-CLARK HAMFEST; Dennis: Please post this so everyone can read it. He saw a nice looking lady in her sixties sitting at the bar by herself and offered to buy her a drink. She said ok and they got along famously. He treated her to a very romantic dinner and afterwards she suggested a nightcap at her place. They went to her apartment and one thing led to another and soon they were in bed just going at it. Afterwarda they were each laying on their backs staring at the ceiling just thinking to themselves. He was thinking--gee, if I had known she was a virgin, I would never have done this. She was thinking--wow, if I had known he could get an erection, I would have taken off my pantyhose! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Optimist and the Pessimist The story is told of a father who had twin sons. One son was an optimist, the other a pessimist. On the twins' birthday, while the boys were at school, the father loaded the pessimist's room with every imaginable toy and game. The optimist's room he loaded with horse manure. That night the father passed by the pessimist's room and found him sitting amid his new gifts crying bitterly. "Why are you crying?" the father asked. "Because my friends will be jealous, and I'll have to read the instructions, and I'll constantly need batteries, and my toys will get broken," answered the pessimist. Passing the optimist's room, the father found him dancing for joy in the pile of manure. "What are you so happy about?" asked the father. To which the optimist replied, "There's got to be pony in here somewhere!" ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Quotes From Groucho Marx (1890-1977) Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana. Room service? Send up a larger room. Who are you going to believe, me or your own eyes? Those are my principles. If you don't like them I have others. He may look like an idiot and talk like an idiot but don't let that fool you. He really is an idiot. I never forget a face, but in your case I'll be glad to make an exception. A child of five could understand this. Fetch me a child of five. >From the moment I picked your book up until I laid it down I was convulsed with laughter. Someday I intend reading it. Ice Water? Get some Onions - that'll make your eyes water! You know I could rent you out as a decoy for duck hunters? You've got the brain of a four-year-old boy, and I'll bet he was glad to get rid of it. A man's only as old as the woman he feels. Why should I care about posterity? What's posterity ever done for me? Why, I'd horse-whip you if I had a horse. Military justice is to justice what military music is to music. Military intelligence is a contradiction in terms. One morning I shot an elephant in my pajamas. How he got into my pajamas I'll never know. There is no sweeter sound than the crumbling of your fellow man. I must say that I find television very educational. The minute somebody turns it on, I go to the library and read a book. I have had a perfectly wonderful evening, but this wasn't it. If I held you any closer I would be on the other side of you. I must confess, I was born at a very early age. I don't care to belong to a club that accepts people like me as members. It is better to have loft and lost than to never have loft at all. I was married by a judge. I should have asked for a jury. Either he's dead or my watch has stopped. Remember men, we're fighting for this woman's honor; which is probably more than she ever did. Women should be obscene and not heard. After his introduction on a music/variety show, Groucho and the host both sat down at center stage. Host: "I'm a big fan of yours, Groucho." Groucho: "If it gets any hotter in here I could use a big fan." Do you think I could buy back my introduction to you? Time wounds all heels. Why was I with her? She reminds me of you. In fact, she reminds me more of you than you do! Behind every successful man is a woman, behind her is his wife. As soon as I get through with you, you'll have a clear case for divorce and so will my wife. Well, art is art, isn't it? Still, on the other hand, water is water! And east is east and west is west and if you take cranberries and stew them like apple-sauce they taste much more like prunes than rhubarb does. Now, uh... Now you tell me what you know. Marry me and I'll never look at another horse! I married your mother because I wanted children, imagine my disappointment when you came along. Whatever it is,... I'm against it. A woman is an occasional pleasure but a cigar is always a smoke. Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read.
