PRC-55 Example Finally Found, ON THE COMMERCIAL FRONT; BC-474, & -659 Stuff NEW MEMBERS; HUMOR; *********************************************** ANNOUNCEMENTS; Well, the old 200meg hard drive is gone, along with my beloved old Windows 3.11 system. I held out replacing both as long as possible but I knew that I couldn't escape the inevitable. I had to delete about 15 megs of data two weeks ago to keep Juno, and the Group Post going because I had maxed out the old hard drive, even then, I began losing valuable folders at random each time I fired this thing up. Running scandisk every couple of days produced about 10-20 bad sectors each time, but I was able to recover most, if not all the lost files. Now, $300 later, I have a new 6g hard drive, and a much hated Windows 98 operating system, but maybe my worries will be over for awhile. Hell, I might now even survive Y2K. Get your material in to me no later than tonight for this weekend's "Paper Trail", and "Group Want's & Trade's" Dennis *********************************************** MEMBERS WRITE; Experimental PRC-88, -68, PRT-4's, URC-68, & More FS-5000, DENNIS: FYI: I HAD SOME OF THE PRC-88 SETS ( ALL PROTOTYPES) THEY ALSO AHD A BATTERY BOX THAT HELD 3 OF THE BA-399/PRT-4 IN PARALLEL, AND A RF AMP MODULE THAT FIT ON THE TOP ( WORKED ON THE PRT-4 ALONE ALSO) THAT SEEMED TO BOOST THE POWER TO ABOUT 3 W. THERE WERE LOTS OF VARIATIONS OF THE SETS, I ALSO HAD A PRR-9 THAT WAS ALL MODULAR, WITH BLADE ANTENNA AND VCO TUNING. SAME THING WITH THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE PRC-68 AND URC-68. I HAVE HAD A FEW VARITIES OF THEM TOO. ALSO, REGARDING THE FS-5000. I THINK DHALMER/BENZ AND DEUITCHE AEROSPACE( NOT TELEFUNKEN ?) WAS THE MAKER OF THE SETS I HAVE. THEY PUT OUT A MODEL HRS-7000 ( IN JANES) THAT IS SIMILAR, BUT HAS ALL THE STUFF IN 2 CHASSIS, AND NOT SEPERATE. MIKE ed) My luck! Bet all these examples are now long gone! ----------------------------------------------------------------- Navajo Code Talkers Book, There is a book out on the Navajo Code Talkers: McClain, S., "Navajo Weapon," Books Beyond Borders, Boulder, CO. 1994, ISBN 1-883862-07-8 It has pictures (Dennis will be able to enjoy it!), maps and the complete code. Hi Dennis, I seem to recall you were looking for the manual on the SEM 52-A. If you can receive a 5 MB file by email, I can supply you with an Acrobat format electronic copy - just finished scanning and refinishing the photocopy I got with my SEM 52 A the other day. I'm a bit proud of it actually - the first PDF project that I finished to my liking. Complete with blanks inserted, so that double-sided printing will actually give a correct copy. Not for general distribution, Only Group Members can get it from me. In German, I must add. Cheers, Wammes ed) Great! I cannot receive such a file myself, but I know that a number of our members can who have been desperately looking for this material for several years. I'll get a hard copy from one of them. Thanks! Alan Tasker has also just received some material for the SEM-52 that he is currently having translated from German into English. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Listen To This 40mtr Radio Broadcast This Weekend! See ya! 73, MrMike, W1RC The Timtron, WA1HLR ----------------------------------------------------------------- PRC-55 Example Finally Found, Dennis, I got to examine a PRC-55 tonight. Unit is FM as the Tx has a deviation control and the Rx has a discriminator. Tx is on 149.07 MHz, with an xtal of 24.845 (6x). Rx is on 138.66 MHz, with an xtal of 57.58 MHz (2x) with an IF of 23.5 MHz (McCoy xtal filter). I guess I am surprised at the split frequency. I assume this means these were intended for communications with either a base station or a repeater. Unit is made of plastic, and is not especially waterproof. Alan ed) Until now the only info extant on the PRC-55 was as below: PRC-55; Receiver transmitter, VHF, FM. Built by Allied Signal with an original Navy cost of $1810.00. Ops on one channel, 132-150.8mc, A3. Size 4 x 12 x 16", 8.4vdc operating voltage, NSN 5820-00-757-3010. *********************************************** ON THE COMMERCIAL FRONT; BC-474, & -659 Stuff I have available correct, original legs for the BC-474. Every vehicle has "Intel Inside" stenciled on the side. The service is renamed "US Army99." Tanks play a little tune when you start them up. The platoon medic carries Norton Antivirus in his first-aid kit. Your gunsights have a Win95 startup screen. Every night Marine Corps boot camp recruits shout, "Good night, Bill Gates, wherever you are!" Bayonets have a laser range finder and barometric pressure gauge. Military funerals feature the "21 beep salute" and the "missing file formation." Unit guidons are replaced with black-and-white bar codes. Crashing a vehicle takes on a whole new meaning. Maintenance companies of forward support battalions are replaced by 1-800 service numbers. Every platoon's TO&E includes "Sun Certified Java programmer - 1 each." Rifles come with a boot disk. Soldiers are heard to ask, "How many MEGs you got in your rucksack?" Night vision goggles have a screen saver. After lasing the target, your attack helicopter asks, "Do you really want to delete this target?" Hand grenades require you to put in a password before throwing them. SINCGARS is the most user-friendly piece of equipment you have. ----------------------------------------------------------------- How did the blonde die drinking milk?
