In my opinion this came about because of lying which caused false beliefs in the rioters. So started looking into it on the Reality and Belief web page. But there's so many cases I've moved them here.
This reminds me of 9/11. People with very strong (false) beliefs acting on those false beliefs and causing trouble for everyone.

Senate Judiciary Committee: Subverting How the Former President and His Allies Pressured DOJ to Overturn the 2020 Election, 394 pages (43 pages of body the rest reference documents), 7 Oct 2021 -
FINDING 1: President Trump repeatedly asked DOJ leadership to endorse his false claims that the election was stolen and to assist his efforts to overturn the election results.
FINDING 2: White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows asked Acting Attorney General Rosen to initiate election fraud investigations on multiple occasions, violating longstanding restrictions on White House-DOJ communications about specific law enforcement matters.
FINDING 3: After personally meeting with Trump, Jeffrey Bossert Clark pushed Rosen and Donoghue to assist Trump’s election subversion scheme—and told Rosen he would decline Trump’s potential offer to install him as Acting Attorney General if Rosen agreed to aid that scheme. (At some point during the meeting, Donoghue and Engel made clear that all of the Assistant Attorneys General would resign if Trump replaced Rosen with Clark. Donoghue added that the mass resignations likely would not end there, and that U.S. Attorneys and other DOJ officials might also resign en masse. pg 38)
FINDING 4: Trump allies with links to the “Stop the Steal” movement and the January 6 insurrection participated in the pressure campaign against DOJ.
FINDING 5: Trump forced the resignation of U.S. Attorney Byung Jin (“BJay”) Pak, whom he believed was not doing enough to address false claims of election fraud in Georgia. Trump then went outside the line of succession when naming an Acting U.S. Attorney, bypassing First Assistant U.S. Attorney Kurt Erskine and instead appointing Bobby Christine because he believed Christine would “do something” about his election fraud claims.
FINDING 6: By pursuing false claims of election fraud before votes were certified, DOJ deviated from longstanding practice meant to avoid inserting DOJ itself as an issue in the election.
Criminal Cases
There have been a number of tort cases (Wiki) where Trump has lost money, but as of 8 April 2024 none of the criminal cases (Wiki) have started.

In the left column below are links to Dockets on Court Listener. These come after the names of the parties.
In this case the party bringing the action is almost always "United States v."
Below that will be the names of the accused.
A docket number followed by two or four letters is the case in the state where the accused was arrested. Sometimes the Complaint and Facts/Affidavit show up only in that docket and other times these will be repeated in the DDC docket.
The DDC docket will look like 1:21-mj-nnnnn where "1" is the DC court, "21" is the year 2021, "mj" is a magistrate assignment case, and "nnnnn" is a sequential number. There is a rough correlation between the nnnnn number and the date of the first document filed on that docket. There are gaps in the "mj" docket numbers because there are cases other than the insurrection in the same court, such has drug, firearm, kidnapping, financial &Etc cases. There are also gaps because the case has been sealed so these may show up at a later time.
Dockets with "cr" are criminal cases and typically that's where you find Grand Jury Indictments. These are more serious than "Information" listing the charges.

There's a couple of ways charges can be brought against the accused.
The milder way is "Information" and the stronger way is "Grand Jury Indictment". They may relate to misdemeanor v felony but I've seen both terms used to describe "Information" so that's not clear.

Key Entries
In the left column are the names of the accused, and associated docket numbers. These may be from the local jurisdiction or the DC court system. Sometimes a docket covers more than one person, if so I put it at the bottom of the box. Sometimes there are individual dockets for each person although they are grouped for trail, so I put the dockets below the name of the person.
I gave up trying to use the Court column but it resists my attempts to delete it.
The Date column is the first filing date.
The parties column typically has the name of the accused, a link to their DOJ page and then in the order that I discovered them: Complaint, Facts (or affidavit), Warrant (location of arrest and starting the trial clock). When a criminal charge is brought it will be either as Information or a Grand Jury Indictment. There may be superseding filings to add or subtract charges and/or filings to keep the trial clock alive.
2021-12-28 - The DOJ resumed sending emails with links to
individual web pages that show up below as "DOJ" links.
This stopped after a hack of the DOJ computer a few months
ago.
